Abstract

An information display with a passive display device (1), especially a dot-matrix-display device, and a device for illuminating the display surface (3) of the display device (1), comprising at least one light source (4.1) extending in a lateral manner along a longitudinal edge (1.1) of said display device and a light guide device (5.1) located adjacent to the light source (4.1) and running in a substantially parallel manner along said source, whereby said light guide device does not overlap with the display surface (3), at least when seen from the top, so that at least part of the light radiated from the light source (4.1) is deflected onto the display surface (3) of the display device (1). The light source (4.1) is formed by a number of light diodes (6) arranged in at least one row (14.1) running substantially parallel to the longitudinal edge (1.1) and the light guide device (5.1) is embodied in such a way that the display surface (3) of the display device (1) is illuminated in a substantially homogenous manner.
