Abstract

The invention relates to a device (1) and a method for splitting wood. The inventive device comprises at least one transport means which is provided with a gripping device (4) and is used to seize, hold and transport a piece of wood (9) in an operating position (A2), and a splitting device (14) which is arranged on the transport means. The invention is characterised in that a shortening means (7) for pieces of wood (9) is arranged on the transport means (2), along with an abutment means (5) for fixing the length of the piece of wood (9) to be shortened in a variable manner. The shortening means (7) and the abutment means (5) can be displaced in relation to each other.
