Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

    Echelle   (le   mesure.

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

    Scale (the measure.

   The measurement (the diameter of a cylindrical body is generally done for small diameters by means of a caliper. If the diameter is too large to be able to be measured with a caliper, the circumference is measured. then divide by an approximate value of '(or 3.1416,
On the other hand, to determine the circumference corresponding to a known diameter, this diameter must be multiplied by an approximate value of Ò.

   The present invention relates to a measuring scale allowing the immediate reading of the diameter of a circumference, of its length or vice versa. This éghelle consists of a flexible tape, metallic or else, but not extensible, which bears two graduations, having between them the ratio of the circumference to the diameter, simultaneously allowing the direct reading either of the circumference of any cylindrical body, or of its diameter.

   To facilitate reading, provision is made according to the invention to furnish the beginning of the scale with an indicator whose width is greater than that of the graduated tape. when

 <Desc / Clms Page number 2>

 the tape will be placed in the operative position with the two projecting edges of said indicator providing precise information on the length of the circumference or of the diameter.

   As the value read includes an increase in length resulting from the thickness of the tape, this is compensated by an offset of the indicator corresponding to two thicknesses of said tape multiplied by Ò or 3.1416,
One could, according to the invention, achieve a rigid scale either of wood, steel or the like serving for the calculation of diameters and circumferences during studies or problem solutions.

   Other features of the invention will emerge from the following description. the appended drawings indicate by way of nonlimiting example one embodiment of the invention. This extends to the various original features included in the arrangement shown.

   The fig.l is a portion of the graduated scale, the length of this one being able to vary infinitely.

   Fig.2 is a perspective view showing the scale in the operating position.

   According to the invention, there is provided a tape such as 2 made of flexible but inextensible material. This bears on one of the faces two graduations, one of which such as 3 is numbered in centimeters, the other such as 4 being a graduation having a ratio of the diameter to the length of the circumference.

   It is planned to provide the beginning of the scale with an indicator, such as 5, of width greater than the width of the tape 2, the projecting edges 6 of said indicator 5 allowing reading: on one side of the length of the circum-

 Ference, on the other side of the corresponding length of the diameter, oven measure the length and the diameter of a cylindrical body it is surrounded by the scale produced according to the invention (as shown in fig. 2) and the simultaneous reading of the lengths: of the circumference and of the diameter is visible through the protruding edges 6 of the indicator 5.

   It is obvious that the indicator 5 can be replaced by a transparent cursor or the like,
It goes without saying that the invention is in no way limited to the embodiment described by way of example but that it extends to any embodiment coming within the spirit or the scope of the following claims.

    CLAIMS.

   1. Flexible or rigid measuring scale c a r a c t e - risa e in that two graduations having between them; the ratio of the circumference to the diameter, simultaneously allow the reading of the length of a circumference and the corresponding diameter of the saddle.
