Abstract
Naphthenes component difficult to distinguish in an aromatics contg. hydrocarbon mixture is detected by (1) detecting the conc. of the aromatics component in a sample of the mixture, (2) reacting a sample of the mixture to convert at least a portion of the naphthenes to aromatics, (3) detecting the conc. of the aromatics component in the reacted sample, and (4) generating a signal representative of the conc. of the naphthenes component in the hydrocarbon mixture in response to detecting steps (1) and (3) and in accordance with a predetermined relationship relating to the detected aromatics with the conc. of the same aromatics in a reference mixture. The process is partic. suitable for continually monitoring the naphthenes content of a catalytic reformer feed and the information obtained may be made available to a computer control loop whereby the reforming process conditions may be optimised.
