Description
Process for the production of a new condensation product suitable for the production of plastic liquids. It has been found that new condensation products of higher fatty acids can be obtained if, for example, using the Swiss method. Patent No. 144851 and its additives available halogen derivatives of higher fatty acids treated with solutions of weak alkalis. You can pretend that the halogen-containing higher fatty acids with aqueous solutions weakly alkaline we kender agents, such as. B.
Ammonia, soda, sodium phosphate, sodium acetate; Ammonium formate, urea, etc. a. or mixtures of the same with or without the addition of catalysts, optionally heated under pressure. Depending on the choice of the alkaline agent and the halogen fatty acid used as starting material and depending on the test conditions, products of different degrees of condensation are obtained. Depending on this degree of condensation, some products are obtained that go into solution through boiling with dilute alkalis with saponification, and some products that can no longer be further changed by boiling with alkalis.
The new materials are more or less elastic, rubber-like, sometimes plastic products that can be used for a wide variety of technical purposes.
The formation of the new products is apparently due to the fact that not only some of the halogen atoms of the halogen fatty acids, partly with replacement by hydroxyl groups or other residues of the weakly alkaline agents, partly with the formation of double bonds due to the action of the weak alkalis the molecule of the halogen fatty acids is taken out, but that also through the further influence of the weak alkalis reacting the carboxyl groups with other reactive groups, e.g.
B. esterification of the carboxyl groups with hydroxyl groups a more or less extensive condensation or polymerization of several molecules takes place.
The present patent relates to a process for the preparation of a new condensation product, characterized in that a tetrachloropalmitic acid, which can be obtained by the action of chlorine until 4 chlorine atoms enter palmitic acid, is heated with an aqueous ammonia solution.
The new condensation product is a yellowish, viscous and elastic substance that is insoluble in water, dilute acids and alkalis, as well as in organic solvents. It should be used for the production of plastic masses.
Example: 40 kg of a tetrachloropalmitic acid, which can be obtained by the action of chlorine up to the entry of 4 chlorine atoms on palmitic acid, are used in autoclaves with 46 kg of an aqueous ammonia solution (d = 0.909), which is filled with a further 20 kg of water is diluted, heated to about 140-150 ') for a few hours. After cooling, the reaction product is separated off by filtration, washed with water and dried. For example, it can be purified by extraction with boiling chloroform or alcohol.
