Description

Light alloy, hard, tenacious, shiny like steel and stainless. The alloys of magnesium and aluminum are preferred for certain uses because of their low specific weight. But they are either insufficiently hard, or too little resistant, or too dull, or even oxidize too easily.

In the particular case of skates, a light alloy which is sufficiently tenacious and hard, and which does not stick to the snow, is preferred. The present invention relates to a light, hard alloy; tenacious, shiny like. steel, stainless, not sticking to snow and particularly suitable for making light skates, characterized in that it contains, in the order of the parts by weight incorporated therein, of the aluminum, copper, magnesium, nickel, chromium, iron, (silicon and manganese.

10 () kg of alloy can, for example, be prepared by melting together 3 kg of copper, 0.9 kg of nickel, 0.25 kg of chromium, 0.075 kg of silicon, 0.075 kg of manganese and 0.2 kg iron: we add to this mass approximately 4.7 kg of aluminum and 1.5 kg of magnesium, then we make up to 100 kg with aluminum. The alloy can be made more malleable by increasing the proportion of aluminum.

This alloy is particularly suitable for making light skates.
