Description
The present invention relates to an orthogonal connection collar with bolts, intended to ensure the rigid connection, at right angles, in particular of two tubes.
The collar forming the subject of the present invention is characterized in that it consists of a one-piece body carrying two clamping caps equipped with bolts.
The single figure of the appended drawing represents, by way of example, an embodiment of the collar, object of the invention.
The main body of the collar or fitting a can be made of steel, malleable iron, a light alloy or any other material (such as reinforced plastic, for example).
This body has on either side of the median plane two semi-circular shaped housings b which will serve as a support cradle for the tubes to be clamped.
The longitudinal axes of these housings are placed at 901, one with respect to the other and their point of intersection is located at the center of the body, which automatically ensures the perpendicularity of the flanged tubes.
There are also the pins c and d on which the two clamping caps will be positioned. The latter (only one of which is shown in the drawing at e) are made of stamped sheet metal and ribbed perpendicular to the longitudinal axes of the tube cradles which gives them perfect rigidity in the clamping position.
The caps are fixed to the journals using a preformed tongue f which will be folded in the form of a ring on the journal and then welded to its end edge.
The convex internal face m of the caps which constitutes the bearing surface on the tube when tightening, is knurled in order to improve the resistance to sliding.
The beaks of the caps have a flat part g which is pierced with an ovoid-shaped eyelet h through which the threaded part of the tightening bolt k will pass. The latter is made of semi-hard steel with a square head, preferably cadmium-coated for good corrosion resistance. This head is placed in the housings 1 and n of the flange body which are of suitable shape to hold the head of the bolt and prevent it from any rotational movement when tightening.
Ultimately, the improvement made to this fitting can therefore be defined in terms of manufacture and use by the following characteristics - Appreciable weight saving thanks to the use of a body having a minimum of raw material for maximum resistance.
- Large contact surface when tightening which provides excellent slip resistance, enhanced by the knurling of the internal face of the caps.
- Functional shape allowing molding without creating weak points.
- Housings for tightening accessories allowing the use of standard bolts of current manufacture and their instantaneous change if necessary.
- New aesthetics and good taste.
The collar described above with reference to the appended drawing is very particularly useful for ensuring the rigid connection, at right angles, in particular of two bars or tubes, in particular of tubes of section 40/49 or others.
