Abstract
The first stage consists of pre-compacting of the powder in the die by a slow pressing action of the punch, following which the punch is momentarily retracted and driven back into the die at high speed to attain a high kinetic energy causing additional compacting of the powder beyond its prepressed density. The high speed pressing is carried out by means of an electrodynamic unit comprising a condenser, the discharge of which feeds a coil, which acts on a plate carrying the punch. The process yields high density powder metallurgy products. It is intended for ferrous materials.
