Description
The subject of the invention is an overcurrent-releasing fuse and a method for its production.
This fuse is essentially characterized in that non-metallic, chemical bodies are applied to the point provided for the disconnection of the fusible conductor, preferably the center of the fusible conductor, which are able to react with one another or with the metal of the fusible conductor at predetermined temperatures and the Change fusible conductor in its internal resistance through chemical or thermal attack or combined chemical and thermal attack, preferably by destroying it to switch it off.
In order to achieve a desired delay in the disconnection time, fusible conductors have so far either been provided with the required larger cross-section and, for this purpose, with arrangements of metals or alloys in order to guarantee disconnection in prescribed periods of time, even in the case of long-term, small overloads above the rated current, or instead these arrangements also covered with salts or salt mixtures or coated at the desired shutdown points.
The attachment of metals or alloys, the melting point of which is usually below that of the fusible conductor, and which are intended to cause premature melting through the formation of an alloy, has certain disadvantages, however.
Alloy formations occur even at normal operating temperatures, often well below the actual melting point, resulting in a change in the internal resistance, or decomposition becomes noticeable, which changes the melting point. These disadvantages are avoided by applying salts and salt mixtures.
The subject matter of the invention also provides other bodies not based on the metal mold during attachment, which also have the advantage over salts and salt mixtures that they do not dissociate during the melting process and thus could possibly delay the arc extinction due to ionized components . According to a particular embodiment of the invention, non-dissociable compounds are proposed in the case of stress, which primarily include reducible compounds, such as netal oxides, which can be admixed with reducing agents in a certain ratio. They have a melting point above the operating temperature and behave indifferently in every respect under loads up to the limit current. Higher temperatures, for example as a result of overloads up to one and a half times the nominal current, however, initiate the reduction with the consequence of a diffusion of metal or suitable metalloid into the fusible conductor, the melting point of which is thereby reduced. The extent to which the melting point is lowered can easily be regulated by means of preliminary tests, depending on the choice and dimensioning of the components. Under certain circumstances, even the metal oxide without reducing agent is sufficient, since the fusible conductor takes its place.
The reduction mass can, however, also be selected in such a way that the fusible conductor is destroyed by a corresponding thermal course of the reduction, so that in summary the course of the reduction and the duration of the melting process can be mastered. For example, the reduction can be influenced with known agents by dimensioning the components as well as by measures known per se for such processes in chemistry, e.g. by adding catalysts that have a braking or accelerating effect.
The type and composition of the reducing substances, which can be determined by preliminary tests and which are familiar to chemists, can also be added to substances which absorb or destroy part of the arc energy when they begin to melt, e.g. strontium carbonate, which generates carbon dioxide by adding thermal energy.
Suitable substances according to the above are, for example, tin peroxide, lead peroxide, bismuth trioxide, silver or selenium oxide, etc., as well as mixtures of such oxides with reducing agents such as drilling carbon, sulfites, cyanides with catalysts such as manganese dioxide or palladium or known arc-extinguishing substances such as organic Iodine compounds. The particular advantage of this arrangement according to the invention is that the cartridges are durable for years even at high operating temperatures and in a humid environment, special protection of the identification wires is unnecessary due to the indifference and a considerable possibility of variation up to multiple melting times can be achieved.
In the production of the fuses according to the invention, the procedure is that the substances used either with the help of a putty or by melting or fritting the total mass or individual components, for example in the form of a melting bead or wrapped in such on the fusible conductor, preferably on a for the melting of a predetermined point of the fusible conductor, for example a kink or weakening of the latter can be attached.
