Description

For the production of artificial casings, it is known to impregnate paper webs with a gelatin solution, then to cut them to the desired length and glue them, and then to harden them. Although protein solutions are often proposed in the literature for impregnation in general, in practice only gelatin solutions are used almost exclusively for this purpose. The reason for this is that, of the proteins, only the gelatin and the glue have the advantageous property of being more easily dissolved in water in the required concentration as the temperature increases, while other proteins, such as <illegible> (blood and < Illegible>, casein, fish protein, soybean protein, coagulate more or less quickly and become insoluble due to the action of heat. Contrary to the claims in the literature, proteins cannot be used as impregnating agents because, with the exception of gelatine and glue, they are in of the required concentration are not readily soluble and also do not adhere to the paper webs to be impregnated due to the lack of viscosity of their solutions and flow off quickly Separate clumps.

In der Praxis zeigte es sich aber, daß derartigeThe proposal has also already been made to impregnate artificial casings with a solution of <Illegible> and casein; in this way one should get to boil-proof and resilient artificial casings. In practice, however, it turned out that such

Intestines are much too brittle, so that even during their production, despite special precautionary measures, very considerable rejects are inevitable and, moreover, their processing is particularly difficult. In addition, casein is a very expensive raw material, for the processing of which it is unavoidable to dissolve it with alkaline agents, which, however, depending on the conditions used, leads to more or less extensive degradation. It has now been shown, surprisingly, that by using gelatine albumin solutions as impregnating agents for paper webs suitable for the production of artificial intestines, the deficiencies occurring in the known processes of this type are remedied.

For the purposes of the invention, the protein content of the impregnating solution consists of about 15-30% albumin, the remainder being gelatine, with a percentage of albumin between 50 and 70% having proven to be particularly advantageous.

In order to dissolve the albumin more easily, especially at higher concentrations of the albumin, it has been found to be useful to adjust the impregnation solution to a pH of at least 7.5 if the albumin content is higher, especially 40%, e.g. by adding ammonium carbonate solution . This low alkalinity is sufficient to convert the albumin into an easily soluble, viscous and stable form at the higher temperatures involved. When adding alkalis or substances with an alkaline reaction, however, care must be taken that the alkalinity is not too high, as insoluble protein products are excreted at a pH value of around 9-10 and impregnation would no longer be feasible.

With these albumin gelatin solutions according to the invention webs of papers suitable for artificial bowel production are then impregnated, preferably at about 30-40 ° C., and it is found that these solutions penetrate the papers treated with the same surprisingly well. The artificial casings produced from such impregnated papers meet all the requirements; In contrast to papers treated with gelatine or gelatine-casein, without the addition of any softening agents, they are extremely flexible and crease-resistant, so that neither in their production nor in their processing do the previous deficiencies, such as high rejects or difficult ones Handling are to be feared at all. In addition, the artificial casings according to the invention show excellent boiling resistance.

In addition to these technical advantages, the invention is also of particular economic importance, since albumin is a cheap raw material compared to gelatine and especially compared to casein, which can be obtained easily almost everywhere in sufficient quantities.

Beispiel 1:Example 1:

Mit dieser ungefähr 30° warmen Mischung werden zweckmässig auf die gewünschte Länge zugeschnittene Papierbahnen getränkt, sodann zu Schläuchen verklebt und in üblicher Weise gehärtet.1 kg of gelatine is dissolved in 10 liters of water at a temperature of around 40 ° and mixed with a cold solution of 1 kg of albumin in 10 liters of water. With this approximately 30 ° warm mixture, paper webs cut to the desired length are suitably impregnated, then glued to form tubes and cured in the usual way.

Beispiel 2:Example 2:

1 kg Gelantine wird bei einer Temperatur von etwa 40° in 10 Liter Wasser gelöst und mit einer kalt bereiteten Lösung von 2,3 kg Albumin in 10 Liter Wasser, welche unter Zusatz von1 kg of gelatine is dissolved in 10 liters of water at a temperature of about 40 ° and with a cold prepared solution of 2.3 kg of albumin in 10 liters of water, which, with the addition of

Ammonium carbonate was brought to a pH of about 8, mixed. The paper webs soaked with this solution at about 30-35 ° are then processed into artificial casings in the usual way. But you can also first impregnate paper webs of greater length, then cut them to the desired length, glue them together to form tubes and harden them.
