DEUTSCHES PATENTAMTGERMAN PATENT OFFICE
It is known to use shading or hatching by hand on geographical maps to achieve a three-dimensional effect of the mountain and valley formations. This procedure is too time consuming and too expensive to be used on a larger scale. For simplification. became therefore, in the production of geographic maps, images of terrain that appear vivid produced by photomechanical means. In this process, the person to be imaged Terrain section a relief made of plaster of paris or similar malleable materials and this relief is suitably illuminated and photographed. The photograph serves as that Map background or the map background is printed after the photograph, usually afterwards with further features to be recorded, such as roads etc., d. H. with the so-called Situation is provided, In this known method, the photographic recording must be in perpendicular to the relief. The light used for lighting can be used on the other hand do not collapse vertically in order to achieve a three-dimensional effect. Besides, it is mostly necessary to elevate the mountain ranges of the relief in relation to the area expansions, to make the plastic effect more prominent, which can lead to distortion.

The light must strike the relief at an angle from one or more directions. Is disadvantageous in the known method for the photomechanical production of plastic cards that cast shadows can not be avoided, which cover the card situation in a disturbing way and only awkwardly can be weakened by lighting from several sides. But you have even when using complicated lighting systems according to the known method so far . cannot achieve satisfactory results.
■· ,The invention has set itself the task of simplifying the photographic recording process improve the plastic effect of photomechanically produced cards z, u. ■ ·,
The invention relates to a method for the photomechanical production plastically '. more effective Maps and consists of a section of the terrain to be displayed. plastic model made of transparent or translucent material and photographed with light shining through. According to the invention, therefore, the translucent model of the terrain section illuminated from one side and photographed from the other side. The photograph created will in a known manner as a map background or as a template for the map background to be printed or the like related. The plastic model made of translucent or clear material, such as clear Plastic or glass, can be made as a positive or negative relief. The model can too as a positive or negative impression or cast made of transparent or translucent material can be made from a relief produced in the usual way. According to another Proposal of the invention winds the plastic model from a sheet of transparent or translucent Material as a positive or negative impression of one produced in the usual way Relief made.
It is recommended that the plastic model be made of transparent or translucent material to be arranged in the photographic recording so that the mountains are facing the camera, and in photograph this position. It is also possible to reverse the model and also to be photographed in transmitted light. In this case the mountains are on a positive Relief facing away from the camera.
The advantages achieved by the invention are mainly to be seen in the fact that by the inside Refractions, reflections and total reflections occurring in the transparent or translucent model the contrast effect is significantly increased and high-contrast, strongly plastic-looking Illustrations can be made. The type of fluoroscopy of the model is largely any. According to a proposal of the invention is to produce the by the plastic Model falling through. Light a source of light used that is central or oblique to the line connecting the camera to the center of the plastic Model is arranged and irradiated the model. But light sources can also be used which are partly central to the aforementioned connecting line from the camera to the center of the three-dimensional model, partly arranged at an angle to it and directed towards the model. To In a preferred embodiment, the plastic model is illuminated by means of diffuse light, the focus of which is either central or at an angle to the line connecting the Camera 'can be arranged to the center of the plastic model. One can also do fluoroscopy of the plastic model on the one hand with light sources with directed radiation and on the other hand, use diffuse light sources. Besides, it depends on the circumstances possible; additionally to illuminate the "three-dimensional model" with incident light, so that besides The light that passes through and also reflected light falls into the camera.
After the method according to the invention can A colored map background can also be produced photomechanically, using the plastic model two or more photographic recordings, each with different fluoroscopy, e.g. B. with Light can be made from ■ different directions, photographed in different colors and can be printed together. It is also possible to use the plastic model in the photographic To illuminate recordings simultaneously with light of two or more different colors and photographic recording with color films and also to print in color after the photographic recordings.
The advantages achieved by the invention are not only in the improvement already mentioned to see the three-dimensional effect of photo-mechanically produced cards, but above all in that the model required to carry out the method in a simple manner, for example in the casting process, made of thermoplastic or other plastics can, and moreover, the recording apparatus is extremely simple. Of special Another advantage is that even without elevation of the ridges shown in the model, a good plastic effect is achievable.
Es zeigtIn the following, the invention is illustrated by means of a merely one exemplary embodiment Drawing explained. It shows
