Abstract

An organ for transplantation purposes, such as a kidney, can be kept effectively with perfusion for a longer period of time by using a perfusate which is prepared by mixing a Ringer solution, modified by increasing the content of potassium ions to between 8 and 20 m-eq./litre, a stable emulsion of a perfluorocarbon compound, and albumen, such that the concentration of the perfluorocarbon compound is between 7.5 and 12.5 per cent, w/v, while the concentration of the albumen is between 1 and 8 per cent, w/v, calculating on the basis of the perfusate.
