Abstract

Spirooxazine compounds represented by general formula (I), excellent in heat resistance and photochromic properties, photosensitive materials containing the compounds in a resin provided on a base plate, and a process for forming photochromic materials into film or other shapes comprising directly incorporating the compounds in a high-molecular material, wherein A and A' are the same and represent groups (II), (III), or (IV); X1, X2, Y1, and Y2 each represents an alkyl group, or X1 and X2, or Y1 and Y2, may be bound to each other to form a cyclohexane ring; Z represents a group selected from among groups (V) and (VI) (these groups optionally having substituents), a straight-chain or branched alkylene group optionally interrupted by an oxygen atom, or an optionally substituted arylene group; R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, and R6 each represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, an alkoxysulfonyl group or an alkylsulfonyl group.
