Definitions
- the present invention relates to ornaments, such as jewelry or watches. These objects participate in the personality of the man or woman who wears them.
- the materials constituting them can be very numerous. Among these, we will particularly note metals, especially metals noble and stainless steel, as well as precious stones, these being frequently combined.
- the grains are released over at least part of their height. They advantageously extend over the entire height of the layer of covering, so as to allow their deformation in order to ensure the stone setting.
- the basic structure comprises grains at the rate of four for each stone, regularly arranged with so that the stones, when set on the grains, form a paving covering the cut.
- the cutout has a flat part, provided with a coating of material having an appearance and a color similar to those of the overlay.
- the latter is provided with a conical housing arranged in the space between the grains.
- the layer is made of rubber and the covering made of black chrome.
- This bezel is essentially formed by a metal ring 10, for example made of gold or stainless steel, of substantially rectangular section, which forms its basic structure and ensures its rigidity. It has an upper surface 12 coated with a rubber layer 16 formed by two rings 16a and 16b, separated by a cutout 18 which has the shape of a groove. The bottom of this the latter is provided with recesses forming housings 20, in each of which there is a cut stone 21.
- Each stone 21 is fixed to the ring 10 by crimping, by means of four grains 22, better visible in FIG. 5.
- the stones 21 are chosen so that they occupy almost the entire width of the cutout 18, leaving no only a weak day between them and layer 16. They have a plate 21a forming their upper surface.
- the housings 20 are dimensioned in such a way so that, when a stone 21 is housed there, its plate 21a is substantially at the same level as the upper face of the layer 16.
- the upper face 12 of the bezel described above is therefore formed of two annular rubber portions 16a and 16b, separated by stones 21 arranged in a circle.
- the first step consists of machining, by turning, the face upper 12 of the ring 10. More precisely, the upper surface 12 comprises, starting from the center towards the outside, an inner edge 23, a recess 24 delimited by a cylindrical wall 25 and intended to receive a watch glass which has not been shown in the drawing, a first surface planar annular 26, two drops 32 and 34 forming between them a recess 36, and a second planar surface 40.
- the outer edge of the ring 10 is formed of a cylindrical wall 43.
- the width and the height of the drops 32 and 34 is of the order of 0.3 mm, and the width of the 0.9 mm hole 36.
- the bottom of the hollow 36 is provided with a thin matte coating 44, of black color, advantageously of chrome, as Bicrom SA (Switzerland) does. Thanks to this coating 44, the bottom of the hollow 36 has an appearance comparable to that of the layer 16 of rubber.
- the ring 10 is then placed in a mold 46.
- the latter is dimensioned so that its walls are in contact with the walls 25 and 43 of the telescope 10 and with the face upper of the drops 32 and 34.
- Two chambers 48 and 50 are thus formed, delimited by the mold 46 and, for the first 48, by the surface 26 and by the inner edge of drop 32, while the second is defined by the surfaces 40 and by the outer edge of the drop 34.
- the mold 46 comprises channels 46a allowing the injection of rubber in liquid form in chambers 48 and 50.
- the mold 46 remains closed as long as the material is not solidified.
- the usable rubber is advantageously of synthetic type, for example PVC Nitrile (hardness 67 shores A), such as that sold by the BIWI SA (Switzerland) under the reference EKP 020 70 03.
- the ring 10 is the subject of new machining operations intended to form the structure allowing the fixing of the stones 21, and more particularly the housings 20 and the grains 22. This structure is illustrated in FIG. 5.
- the housings 20 are machined by means of a drill, the end of which can be formed of a diamond, which allows to obtain a polished surface of the bottom of the housing 20.
- the polished appearance is particularly advantageous when the stones used are not of the best quality. This enhances their luminosity.
- the diameter of the drill is chosen so that the drops 32 and 34 are cut, and the slightly machined layer 16 rubber, to define a clearance around the stones 21, which emphasizes their beauty and makes it possible to avoid that they are not "stifled” by their environment.
- the drill diameter is 0.05 to 0.10 mm greater than the sum of the widths of the drops 32 and 34 and the hollow 36, a sum which is substantially equal to the diameter of stones 21. Care must be taken that machining does not deteriorate the layer 16, so that the stones are perfectly clean.
- the drops 32 and 34 are thus transformed into a succession of columns of trapezoidal section, adjacent to and surrounding the annular portions 16a and 16b housing 20.
- the columns are cut in the middle by a groove 52 extending radially and dividing them into two equal parts.
- This groove is made using a cutter with a diameter as small as possible, typically 0.10 mm, displaced radially across the width of the drops 32 and 34.
- the grains thus obtained can be worked in their exposed part, that is to say at the level of the wall of the groove 52, to effect the crimping.
- the coating 44 is pierced by the machining of the housings 20. From the kind, the environment of the stones 21 is black both in the parts formed by the portions 16a and 16b only through the recess 36, while the bottom of the housings 20 is polished and metallic in appearance.
- the housings 20 being machined, it is then possible to place the stones 21, one in each housing 20, and to crimp them by deformation of the grains 22.
- the bezel thus obtained therefore has, on its upper face 12, a layer of rubber 16 and, arranged in a cutout 18, in the immediate vicinity of this layer, stones 21 such as diamonds.
- stones 21 such as diamonds.
- the recess 36 can be produced after the overmolding of the layer 16.
- the coating 44 will be formed varnish rather than chrome, to avoid having to carry out operations likely to cause deterioration of the rubber.
- the embodiment described above can be the subject of numerous variants.
- the same principle is applicable to a ring or a bracelet.
- the stones will be set on the edge of the object, which means that the recess 36 will be defined by two tori arranged on the periphery of the basic structure, forming the body of the ring or bracelet.
- Layer 16 is advantageously made of synthetic rubber. other materials can also be used, for example other materials organic, natural or synthetic, and especially elastomers. thermoplastics.
