Definitions
- the present invention relates to devices for tightening mounting-line knots prior to discharging as well as releasing nets from net ropes and a method thereof.
- the device makes it possible to determine how tightly the knot is fastened as the net is mounted onto net ropes using a mounting-line, ensuring that the net will not slide on the net ropes during discharging of the net.
- a cutting means can be provided on or adjacent to the device to release the nets from the rope.
- WO 03/061374 Al discloses nets for fishing, a discharge system and a method, which employs a mounting-line to mount nets equally onto net-ropes of fishing nets, in order to maintain the right mesh openings in the nets and to prevent the sliding of the knots in the water during fishing. This prevents the nets from sliding sideways on the ropes and thereby reducing their fishing capabilities.
- the mounting-line ensures that the proper distance between the fastening means on the net will be constantly maintained, as the fastening mean is usually a self- tightening knot. The tightening of the knots around the net ropes in water is ensured due to the upward buoyancy of a floating rope against the downward pull of a sinking rope.
- the mounting-line also ensures that the knots are pulled off the discharging device simultaneously to a net-rope, which is being pulled by mounting-line attached to the net-rope's front end. This secures a proper distance between the knots, which are constantly being tightened by forces acting in opposite directions in the water, whereas traditional net knots tend to become loose on the net-rope under similar circumstances.
- the aim of the present invention is to remedy and eliminate the drawbacks of prior art methods of mounting nets onto ropes by implementing a device at the mounting site allowing tightening of mounting-line knots during mounting.
- the device and the method of the invention also provide breaking and removing knots from a rope.
- the invention in a first aspect relates to a device for securing pre-knitted knots of a net onto a rope, wherein said net has a plurality longitudinally arranged side mesh structures, and a rope arranged alongside said plurality of side mesh structures and further a mounting line repetitively forming a knotted loop around said rope and in-between each knot said mounting line entering through at least one side mesh structure of said net and thereby forming a mounting-mesh.
- the mounting mesh has at least two mounting mesh bars, wherein said knot is secured to the rope by force pulling means applying pulling force onto said loop or mesh.
- a method for securing pre-knitted knots of a net onto a rope, wherein the net has a plurality longitudinally arranged side mesh structures, and a rope arranged alongside said plurality of side mesh structures, and further a mounting line repetitively forming a knotted loop around said rope and in-between each knot said mounting line entering through at least one side mesh structure of said net and thereby forming a mounting-mesh.
- the mounting mesh has at least two mounting mesh bars, wherein said knot is secured to the rope by means of applying pulling force onto said mounting loop or mesh.
- the device of the present invention comprises a force pulling means, which is a device for tightening a knot around a rope or to break a knot from a rope.
- the force pulling means is used in combination with a discharge device or a mounting device as nets are mounted onto ropes for tightening knots around the ropes.
- the force pulling means may also be used for separating nets from ropes.
- the force pulling means comprises a narrow first end in order to guide a loop or a mesh onto the device.
- the structure of the force pulling means is generally a narrow end onto which the loop or mesh is guided and an outwardly extending structure thereafter, resulting in an increased diameter of the device. It is the increased diameter or circumference of the device, which applies pulling force onto the loop or mounting mesh.
- the rope penetrates a hollow force pulling means.
- the force pulling means may comprise a split and as the loop or the mesh is placed securely on the front end of the device the knot of the mounting mesh is guided towards a split, which is arranged along the length of the device.
- the aft end of the device increases in diameter in order to put tension or force onto the mounting mesh.
- the force pulling means of the invention may be referred to as a mesh stretcher.
- knots of the invention are self-tightening knots, which are tied loosely around a mounting device and may be tightened or fastened around the rope prior to using the net.
- breaking refers to breaking knots or mesh bars on ropes.
- the breaking may refer to tearing, ripping, jagging, splitting, shredding, punctuating or rasping.
- knot refers to traditional knots as well as self- tightening mounting knots that are knitted around the discharging device prior to mounting a net onto ropes.
- the knot forms a "loop" as the mounting-line penetrates a side mesh bar and forms loop around the mounting device or the rope, as a self tightening knot such as a clove hitch is knitted around the mounting device or the rope, and after encircling the device or the rope it is knitted together closing the loop in a knot from there penetrating another of the side mesh bars of the net.
- the bars of the loop connect in a knot of the mounting mesh.
- a knot is formed around and on top of the rope or device before being knitted and closing the loop.
- the knots or loops are placed around the rope as the rope is mounted off the discharge device and will be loose until tightened by a pulling force.
- the self- tightening knots can be clove hitch, reversed clove hitch, a clove hitch with an extra noose or any other self-tightening knots.

- the term “mounting-mesh” relates to a mesh formed by a number of mesh bars, which are connected to a net rope by fastening means.
- a mounting mesh can further be formed by a mounting line penetrating a row of net meshes, wherein the mounting line penetrates one of the net meshes and then encircles the mounting-device to form a loop around the mounting-device through a knot and thereafter penetrating an adjacent net mesh.
- the term “mounting-mesh bar” relates to a mesh bar of a mounting-mesh, formed by a thread between two knots of a net mesh or the mounting-line.

- the securing is performed via a guiding line, which penetrates all mounting meshes of a net.
- the first end of the guiding line fastened at the aft end of a mounting device, and the second end of the guiding line is attached to the force pulling means wherein the section of the force pulling means comprising the larger diameter is directed in the discharging direction.
- guiding line refers to a line, which penetrates the loops, meshes or mounting-meshes of the net, and directs them onto the force pulling means as the net is pulled of a mounting device.
- the use of the force pulling means to break knots on ropes involves guiding loops or meshes over the force pulling means.
- the knots or mesh bars are directed towards the split, which allows the loops or meshes knitted around the rope to slide along the device as the rope is being pulled through the device.
- a cutting means may be located in or adjacent to the split, which cuts the mounting mesh bar or one bar of the loop close to the rope.
- the knot can also be broken by tearing the mesh bar by setting the diameter of the force pulling means larger than the larger diameter of the mounting mesh or loop.
- the method of the present invention is provided for securing pre-knitted knots of a net onto or breaking knitted knots from a rope.
- the method discloses how knots may be tightened to a rope by pulling the rope through the force pulling means by means of a guiding line.

- the cutting means of the present invention may be a knife or a blade implemented in the split or adjacent to the force pulling means so that when the loop or mounting mesh is guided along the device, it will be cut.
- the cutting means will be placed in a position where a certain stretching of the loop or mesh has been reached.
