However, in certain applications where the internal pressures required to pump a fluid, such as a deep groundwater sampling well, are significant, such conventional O-ring implementations are fairly limited in the internal pressure that they can accommodate before allowing a leak to occur.

  • the edge mounting of the O-ring 36 is accomplished by providing a radiused edge 38 on an upper peripheral corner of the impeller retainer 22.
  • the O-ring 36 is only partially seated within the radiused edge 38.
  • the radius of curvature of the radiused edge 38 is preferably about the same as, and more preferably exactly the same as, the radius of the O-ring 36.
  • the housing end wall 14 includes an extending portion 14a having a flat surface 14b which makes contact with the O-ring 36 and helps to cause a controlled deformation of the O-ring 36.
  • the O-ring 36 is also contacted by an upper flat surface 24a of a leg 24b of the impeller housing 24.
  • Directional arrow 40 extends generally at about a 45 degree angle relative to the pump housing 12. The 45 degree angle of the bulge provides a first vector component which pushes upwardly against the flat surface 14b of the extending portion 14a of the housing end wall 14, while simultaneously pushing outwardly along a horizontal vector against an inner wall surface 12a of the pump housing 12.
  • FIG. 1 and 2 illustrate the edge supported O-ring 36 shown in Figures 1 and 2 enables significantly higher internal pump pressures to be handled which would not be possible with a conventional O-ring mounting.

  • the edge-mounted O-ring 36 of the present pump 10 described herein does not require additional component parts to be included in the pump, nor does it require extensive modifications to the internal components of the pump.
  • the edge mounted O-ring 36 construction also does not require significant modifications to the assembly procedure for assembling the pump 10, nor does it add appreciably to the overall cost or complexity of the pump 10.
  • the significantly increased pressures that the pump 10 can accommodate enable the pump to be used to pump liquids at depths that would have heretofore been impossible to pump from with a conventional O-ring sealing construction.

Claims (9)

  1. Fluidpumpe (10), umfassend:
    ein Pumpengehäuse (12);
    einen Einlasswandabschnitt (14), der angrenzend an das Pumpengehäuse positioniert ist, und einen Verlängerungsabschnitt (14a) enthält, der sich allgemein parallel zu einer inneren Wandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses erstreckt;
    einen Motor (16), der im Inneren des Pumpengehäuses untergebracht ist;
    ein Laufrad (20), das auf den Motor anspricht;
    eine Laufradhalterung (22), die an das Laufrad angrenzend angeordnet ist und eine verrundete Kante (38) an einer oberen peripheren Ecke der Laufradhalterung (22) enthält; und
    einen O-Ring (36), der an der verrundeten Kante positioniert ist,
    wobei der O-Ring eine Kraft nicht perpendikulär zur Innenwandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses ausübt, um eine Abdichtung gegen die Innenwandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses herzustellen;
    wobei der O-Ring (36) eine Kraft bei einem Winkel von ungefähr 45 Grad zur Innenwandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses (12) ausübt;
    wobei nur ein geringer Teil des O-Rings (36) in der verrundeten Kante der Laufradhalterung (22) sitzt; und
    dadurch gekennzeichnet, dass der O-Ring ebenfalls eine Abdichtung gegen den Verlängerungsteil des Einlasswandabschnitts bildet.
  2. Fluidpumpe nach Anspruch 1, wobei der O-Ring einen Radius aufweist, der ungefähr derselbe ist wie ein Radius der verrundeten Kante.
  3. Fluidpumpe nach Anspruch 1 oder Anspruch 2, ferner umfassend ein Laufradgehäuse (24), das im Inneren des Pumpengehäuses zur Aufnahme des Laufrads positioniert ist, wobei das Laufradgehäuse einen Schenkelabschnitt (24b) enthält, der daraus hervorspringt.
  4. Fluidpumpe nach Anspruch 3, wobei der Schenkelabschnitt sich parallel und an die Innenwandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses anstoßend erstreckt.
  5. Fluidpumpe nach Anspruch 3 oder Anspruch 4, wobei der O-Ring eine Fläche des Schenkelabschnitts berührt.
  6. Fluidpumpe nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei der O-Ring sich vorwölbt, um die Kraft bei einem Winkel von ungefähr 45 Grad zur inneren Wandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses auszuüben.
  7. Flüssigkeitspumpe nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei die verrundete Kante einen geringfügigen Teil des O-Rings berührt.
  8. Flüssigkeitspumpe nach einem der Ansprüche 3 bis 7, wobei der O-Ring gleichzeitig eine Dreiweg-Abdichtung bildet, einschließlich:
    einer ersten Abdichtung zwischen dem Verlängerungsteil des Einlasswandabschnitts und der Laufradhalterung;
    einer zweiten Abdichtung zwischen einer Oberseite des Schenkelabschnitts des Laufradgehäuses und der inneren Wandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses; und
    einer dritten Abdichtung zwischen der inneren Wandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses und der verrundeten Kante.
  9. Fluidpumpe nach einem der Ansprüche 3 bis 8, wobei der O-Ring gleichzeitig Folgendes berührt:
    die verrundete Kante der Laufradhalterung;
    eine Fläche des Verlängerungsteils des Einlasswandabschnitts;
    eine Oberseite des Schenkelabschnitts des Laufradgehäuses und
    die Innenwandfläche (12a) des Pumpengehäuses.
