Abstract
A process for the production of a detergent composition incorporating 5-20% by weight of a detergent active alkylene oxide condensation product, at least 2% by weight of at least one anionic detergent active compound, and sodium tripolyphosphate, comprises forming an aqueous slurry of the detergent active material and sodium tripolyphosphate at least 5% by weight of which is prehydrated and subsequently spray-drying the slurry. The alkylene oxide condensation product is preferably produced by reaction between a C 8 -C 20 aliphatic alcohol, an alkyl phenol or an aliphatic acid amide and ethylene oxide. The process suitably incorporates 25-60% (calculated on an anhydrous basis) of sodium tripolyphosphate in the composition, 10-20% of which is prehydrated. The anionic surfactant may be an alkylbenzene sulphonate or a soap and may be present in the slurry in amounts of 2-15%. Other optional additives include sodium silicate, sodium sulphate and carbonate, sodium perborate, magnesium sulphate, sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and sodium toluene sulphonate.
