Abstract

Undercooled L.N.G. delivered by a pump 1 at 200 atmos. pressure and at - 153 C. is warmed by indirect heat exchange at 3, 6 and is then further warmed at 7, 8 to above 100 C. and expanded in a turbine 9 to the required delivery pressure e.g., 30 atmos. a portion of the expanded gas being diverted along a line 12 and condensed in heat exchangers 3, 6 after which the condensate is pressurized at 4 and fed to the L.N.G. leaving the upper end of exchanger 3. In a modification the undercooled L.N.G. is warmed by direct heat exchange with turbine expanded gas which is thus liquefied and the combined streams are pressurized and heated before being turbine-expanded.
