Abstract
A manufacturing process of augmented mechanical casting molds and cores whereby a refractory sand, a binder that is a urea-formaldehyde resin or a urea-formaldehyde resin is mixed with a resistor in a mixer for 1 to 2 minutes furfuryl alcohol, an organic or mineral acid serving as a binder setting agent, water, an alcohol or a ketone, and a surface active agent, which provides a foam that is lowered before the onset of sand setting and which is selected from the following: a) an alkylbenzosulfonate of formula I: ** (See formula) ** (where R1, R2, R3 and R4 each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group, the alkyl groups comprising in total more than 9 carbon atoms and occupying any position on the benzene nucleus with respect to the sulfonyl group and I am represented by an atom of hydrogen or an alkali metal or a group HX, where X is an amine), alone or in mixture with an alkylbenzosulfonate of formula II: ** (See formula) ** (where R'1 and R'2 each represent a hydrogen atom or a C1 to C3 alkyl group); b) an alkylamine salt of the formula: RNH2YH (III) where R is an alkyl group of more than 9 carbon atoms X is the anionic residue of an acid; c) a compound of formula: ** (See formula) ** where R represents an alkyl group containing more than 9 carbon atoms and Me is an alkali metal atom; in order to obtain a fluid mixture; then this fluidized mixture is cast in a mold that is subjected to mechanical stresses such as vibrations and shocks, between the moment when the mixture begins to pile up and the moment when it begins to harden.
