Abstract

An analytical chemical method that can be used for the measurement of the total antioxidant capacity of an organic or inorganic liquid is described. The antioxidant capacity is determined by the decolourization of 3,3; 5,5; - Tetramethyl benzidine (TMB) cation exerted by the antioxidants of the sample. TMB cation will be decolourized by reduction in a redox reaction. The quantitative analysis of the total antioxidant capacity of the sample can be easily made by spectrophotometry at 450 nm (reference wavelenght 620 or 570 nm) both by macro-and micromethods (ELISA reader) with the use of a number of reducing standard compositions with known concentrations.
