Abstract
Metodo e sistema per convertire l'energia chimica di metano in energia elettrica. Il metano è decomposto termicamente ad idrogeno e carbonio ad una temperatura non minore di circa 1200 K e ad una pressione almeno al disopra della pressione atmosferica. Carbonio ed ossigeno ed il materiale in granuli di cesio o potassio sono trasferiti ad un bruciatore che è mantenuto ad una pressione di almeno circa 50 atmosfere per bruciare carbonio e ossigeno e fornire un plasma ionizzato avente una temperatura di almeno circa 2900 K. Il plasma ionizzato è accelerato ad una velocità di non meno di 1000 m/sec e trasportato attraverso un generatore MHD avente un campo magnetico di da circa 4 a 6 Tesla per generare corrente continua. Il plasma ionizzato è deaccelerato e passato dal generatore MHD in relazione di scambio termico con il metano per riscaldare lo stesso per la decomposizione, e la corrente continua dal generatore MHD è convertita in corrente alternata.
