Description
Claims (10)
- 光源と、
前記光源からの光を映像信号に基づいて変調する空間光変調素子と、
前記映像信号における輝度情報に基づいて、輝度が大きい場合と比べて輝度が小さい場合のほうが前記光源からの光の光量が相対的に小さくなるように、前記光源からの光の光量調整を行う光量調整手段と、
前記光量調整手段において、前記光源からの光の光量を全体的に減少させつつ前記光量調整を行う光量減少調整の際に、そのような光量減少調整に応じて前記映像信号の輝度レベルが高くなるように輝度向上補正を行い、補正後の映像信号を前記空間光変調素子へ供給する画像補正手段と、
前記光量調整手段による光量減少調整の際の目標値である調整目標光量が所定の光量閾値よりも大きいとき、または、表示画面内の全画素のうち、前記画像補正手段による輝度向上補正の際の目標値である補正目標輝度レベルが所定の輝度閾値よりも大きくなる画素の割合が所定の画素閾値よりも大きくなるときに、前記調整目標光量をより大きい値に再設定する第1の再設定処理と、前記補正目標輝度レベルをより小さい値に再設定する第2の再設定処理のうちの少なくとも一方の再設定処理を行う再設定手段と
を備えた画像表示装置。 - 前記再設定手段は、
前記第1の再設定処理を行う際に、前記調整目標光量を、前記光量調整手段による光量減少調整を行う前の光量に対応する無調整の値に再設定すると共に、
前記第2の再設定処理を行う際に、前記補正目標輝度レベルを、前記画像補正手段による輝度向上補正を行う前の輝度レベルに対応する無補正の値に再設定する
請求項1に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記画像補正手段は、
前記光量調整手段による光量減少調整の際に、
前記映像信号に対し、最低輝度から中間輝度の輝度領域では階調領域幅を拡大するようにして前記輝度向上補正を行う一方、前記中間輝度から最高輝度の輝度領域では階調領域幅を圧縮するようにして前記輝度向上補正を行い、
前記再設定手段は、
前記調整目標光量が前記光量閾値よりも大きいとき、または、表示画面内の全画素のうち、前記補正目標輝度レベルが前記輝度閾値よりも大きくなる画素の割合が前記画素閾値よりも大きくなるときに、
前記第1および第2の再設定処理の双方の再設定処理を行う
請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記光量調整手段は、前記再設定手段による再設定処理後の前記調整目標光量に基づき、前記光源からの光の光量調整を、フレーム単位で漸近的に行う
請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記所定の光量閾値、前記所定の輝度閾値および前記所定の画素閾値がそれぞれ、変更可能となっている
請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記映像信号における輝度情報が、表示領域における輝度ヒストグラム分布である
請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記空間変調素子により変調された光をスクリーンに投射する投射手段を備え、
前記光量調整手段が、前記光源からの光を絞ることにより光量調整を行う可変絞りである
請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記空間変調素子が液晶素子であり、
液晶プロジェクタとして構成されている
請求項7に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記空間光変調素子が液晶素子であると共に前記光源が前記液晶素子のバックライト光源であり、
液晶表示装置として構成されている
請求項1または請求項2に記載の画像表示装置。 - 前記バックライト光源が発光ダイオード(LED)を含んで構成され、
前記光量調整手段は、前記映像信号における輝度情報に基づいて前記発光ダイオードへの供給電圧を変化させることにより、前記バックライト光源からの光の光量を調整する
請求項9に記載の画像表示装置。
