Claims (14)
- 画素内に配置された画素電極を有する第1基板と、
前記画素電極に対向する対向電極を含む第2基板と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に配置された、負の誘電率異方性を有する液晶を含む液晶層と、
前記第1基板と前記第2基板との間に配置されたスペーサと、を備え、
前記画素電極は、第1の方向に延びる複数の第1枝部からなる第1部分と、第2の方向に延びる複数の第2枝部からなる第2部分と、第3の方向に延びる複数の第3枝部からなる第3部分と、第4の方向に延びる複数の第4枝部からなる第4部分とを有し、
前記第1方向、前記第2方向、前記第3方向、及び前記第4方向は互いに異なる方向であり、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記画素内で、前記スペーサが、前記画素電極の前記第1部分、前記第2部分、前記第3部分、及び前記第4部分に囲まれた位置に配置されており、
前記画素電極と前記対向電極との間に電圧が印加された場合、前記複数の第1枝部、前記複数の第2枝部、前記複数の第3枝部、及び前記複数の第4枝部によって、液晶が、前記第1枝部に沿って配向する第1領域、前記第2枝部に沿って配向する第2領域、前記第3枝部に沿って配向する第3領域、及び第4枝部に沿って配向する第4領域が形成され、
前記第1基板が前記画素内に配置されたTFTを有し、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記スペーサが前記TFTと重なる位置に配置されている、液晶表示装置。 - 前記第2基板が、前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記スペーサ及び前記TFTと重なる位置に配置された遮光膜を有している、請求項1に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1基板には、前記画素電極に表示信号を提供するための信号線が配置されており、
前記画素電極が、前記第1から第4の方向のいずれとも異なる第5の方向に延びる第1幹部を有し、
前記第1幹部から前記複数の第1枝部、前記複数の第2枝部、前記複数の第3枝部、又は前記複数の第4枝部が延びており、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記信号線が前記第1幹部と重なる位置に配置されている、請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1基板には、前記TFTにゲート信号を提供するための走査線が配置されており、
前記画素電極が、前記第1から第4の方向のいずれとも異なる第6の方向に延びる第2幹部を有し、
前記第2幹部から前記複数の第1枝部、前記複数の第2枝部、前記複数の第3枝部、又は前記複数の第4枝部が延びており、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記走査線が前記第2幹部と重なる位置に配置されている、請求項3に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記第1幹部と前記第2幹部とが交差する部分、または前記第1幹部の延長線と前記第2幹部の延長線とが交差する部分と重なる位置に前記スペーサが配置されている、請求項4に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1基板が絶縁層を有し、
前記画素電極と前記TFTのドレイン電極とが前記絶縁層に形成されたコンタクトホールを介して電気的に接続されており、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記コンタクトホールが前記遮光膜と重ならない位置に配置されている、請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記画素の形状が長方形であり、前記コンタクトホールが前記画素の短辺の中央に形成されている、請求項6に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1基板が、前記画素の周辺部に配置された補助容量線、及び前記TFTのドレイン電極に電気的に接続された補助容量対向電極を有し、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記補助容量線と前記補助容量対向電極とが重なっている、請求項1または2に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記画素電極が、前記TFTを覆うように配置された島状電極を含む、請求項2に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1基板が絶縁層を有し、
前記画素電極と前記TFTのドレイン電極とが前記絶縁層に形成されたコンタクトホールを介して電気的に接続されており、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記コンタクトホールが前記遮光膜と重なる位置に配置されている、請求項2または9に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記島状電極が、前記コンタクトホールを覆うように配置されている、請求項10に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記第1基板が前記画素の周辺部に配置された補助容量線を有し、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記補助容量線の一部と前記画素電極の前記第1部分、前記第2部分、前記第3部分、及び前記第4部分の一部とが重なっている、請求項10または11に記載の液晶表示装置。 - 前記第1基板が、前記画素電極の前記液晶層とは反対側に形成された透明電極を備えている、請求項10に記載の液晶表示装置。
- 前記透明電極が開口を有し、
前記第1基板の面に垂直な方向から見た場合、前記コンタクトホールが前記開口の内側に形成されている、請求項13に記載の液晶表示装置。
