Conventionally, each process has been extremely inefficient and requires a great deal of labor and time, as it involves manually processing a large roll of paper as described above. Furthermore, there are cases in which a paper web of a size required during printing is not on the circulation conveyor and must be urgently transported from storage, which often has an adverse effect on the progress of printing.

The ``Newspaper Printing and Shipping Automation System'' completed at the Nihon Keizai Shimbun Osaki Factory (Chiyoda Sogyo) in 1972 is a system that uses computers to consistently control the process from printing to shipping, and is known as the NPC System (Newspaper Plant Computerized System). System automation has progressed from "line" to "plane", and more recently, total systemization is being considered to "three-dimensional".

3. Each process is fully automated using a computer, so the usage status of each roll of paper can be monitored. In other words, the paper splicing success/failure signal for each roll of paper is sent from the paper feed unit control device to the paper feed management CPU, and
Information on the number of paper outs in the printing section and the number of paper jams in the folding section for each roll of paper is sent from the printing section control device to the paper feed management CPU, which collects this information.
By obtaining quality information for each roll of paper product and size, highly efficient printing processing is now possible.
