Abstract
PURPOSE: To suppress the precipitation of the title polymer and the formation of a lower polymerization degree polymer, etc., by carrying out the polymerization at specific concentrations of the polymer and calcium chloride in a solvent, e.g. N- methyl-pyrrolidone, etc..
CONSTITUTION: Poly-p-phenylene terephtalamide is prepared by reacting p-phenylenediamine with terephthaloyl dichloride in N-methyl-pyrrolidone and/or N, N- dimethylacetamid under the condition expressed by the equation I, II, wherein Xp is the amount (wt.%) of the resultant poly-p-phenylene terephthalamide and Xc is the addition amount (wt.%) of calcium chloride each on the basis of the amount of the solvent. Preferably the powdery solid reaction intermediate prepared by pulverizing the mixture solidified during the polymerization, is further polymerized under shear force to complete the polymerization.
