Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform sure and rapid seeking by reading track number with the head having been moved according to the difference in the current position and the intended position and correcting the contents of a current position register thereby letting seek operation be done.
CONSTITUTION: The difference between the current track number of a head having been recorded in a register 10 and the intended track number having been set in a register 12 are calculated with an arithmetic circuit 14 and is set in a step counter 16. Then, when the subtraction results of a counter 16 become 0 as the head is stepped once for every 1 track in the specified condition by way of a control circuit 18, then the head stops and reads that track number and feeds the same back to the register 10, whereby the contents of the register 10 are corrected. The similar repetition is accomplished until the corrected contents and the contents of the register 12 coincide, thus the seeking of the tracks is rapidly and accurately accomplished even when the intial storage contents of the register 10 differ from the actual current position of the head
