Abstract
PURPOSE: To accurately meter the flow rate of liquid metal flowing in the inner or outer tube of a dual tube structure by providing a magnet and a coil outside of the outer tube in a manner to correspond to the separate portion in the clearance formed in the inner tube of a dual tube structure and an iron core thereby to constitute an electromagnetic flow meter and an electromagnetic pump.
CONSTITUTION: There is provided an electromagnetic flow meter of liquid metal which is to be used in the cooling system of a fast breeder reactor cooled with the liquid metal. In a passage of dual tube structure, through which the metal is made to flow, a overlapped tube portion 14 of a preset length is so provided that a dense clearance 15 is formed at a portion of the wall of an inner tube 12, and an iron core 19 is mounted in the wall of the inner tube 12. An outer tube 11 is arranged at a spacing from the inner tube 12 thereby to constitute a dual tube construction. A magnet 13 is arranged outside of the outer tube 11 corresponding to the clearance 15 of the inner tube 12 thereby to provide an electromagnetic flow meter 10. A coil 18 is arranged outside of the outer tube 11 corresponding to the core 19 thereby to provide an electromagnetic pump 20. There is attached an electrode 16 for metering the electromotive force which is generated by the interaction between the magnetic field by the magnet 13 and the flow of the metal. The clearance 15 is a separating portion for eliminating the influences from the inner and outer tubes 12 and 11 and is evacuated to eliminate the influences from the surrounding condition such as temperature.
