In a collating part 7, collating action is started by the instruction of the control part 5 and the output pattern information of an optical head 6 or the information indicating the feature group extracted from this pattern information is compared and collated with the standard pattern information being the contents of the buffer memory 9. As a result the information indicating whether both may be identified as the same or not is returned to the control part 5.
