Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a secondary air introducing unit which can enhance the exhaust gas purifying effect in wide internal combustion engine revolving range by retaining the exhaust gas pulsation and ensuring required secondary air amount even at high revolving time for the exhaust gas purifying device.
CONSTITUTION: In an exhaust gas purifying device in which the exhaust gas port passages 3 of a multi-cylinder engine 1 are joined to communicate with two branched exhaust gas passages 4, 5 which communicate with one common exhaust gas passage 6 communicating with a reactor 7 communicating through a muffler 8 with the atmosphere and a secondary air supply tube 9 communicating through a check valve 10 and a filter 11 with the atmosphere communicates with the passages 3, a passage 12 communicates between the passages 4 and 5 with an expanded portion 13 provided on the halfway thereof in such a manner that the distance l from an exhaust valve to the second opening end of the portion 13 is shorter than that L from the exhaust velve to the first opening end of the reactor 7. According to such a structure, both the resonance frequencies by the exhaust passage L and l can be retained without mutual interference therebetween.
