Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the mechanical losses of the bearing portions of a composite bearing integral with journal and thrust bearings by reducing the thrust pads in diameter at driven side smaller than those at drive side.
CONSTITUTION: In a composite bearing 1 incorporating a journal bearing portion 6 placed on a base 2, supported via a bolt 4 to steam turbine or the like mounting portion 3 at the top, and rotatably supporting partially a shaft 5, and two thrust pads 7, 8 arranged at both sides of the bearing portion 6, one 7 of the pads 7, 8 is reduced in diameter. The shaft 5 is formed differently in diameter at the outsides of flanges 9, 10 slidably making contact with the outsides of the pads 7, 8 with small diameter portion 11 mounted at the drive side and with large diameter portion 12 mounted at the driven side.
