Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an aqueous dispersion of a vinyl chloride/vinyl ester/ethylene copolymer useful as coatings, adhesives, etc., easily crosslinkable on heating and giving excellent water resistance by copolymerizing a specific compound.
CONSTITUTION: The desired copolymer is prepared by the emulsion polymerization of the composition comprising (1) a monomer mixture consisting of (A) preferably 0.5W10 wt.% of a compound expressed by the formula (R1 is H or CH3; R2 is alkyl of ≤5C), e.g. N-methylolacrylamide, etc., (B) 20W70 wt.% of vinyl chloride, (C) 10W70 wt.% of a vinyl ester, e.g. vinyl acetate, etc., and (D) 3W30 wt.% of ethylene, (2) an emulsifier, e.g. methyl cellulose, etc. and (3) a radical polymerization initiator, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, etc.
