Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve sensitivity to short-wavelength by equipping an accumulating method which accumulates charges equivalent to light information of a photoelectric converting method and then controls the mobility of charges on the basis of the potential at that time.
CONSTITUTION: The solid pickup unit consists of the photoelectric converting method composed of silicon substrate 1, gate oxidized film 2 and clear electrode 12, the accumulating method of diffused layers 5 and 6 and poly-silicon gate 9, and the transfer method of diffused layer 8 and poly-silicon gate 10. Applying a fixed potential to diffused layer 6 controls the mobility of charges to diffused layer 5 and on the basis of the mobility, charges produced by the photoelectric converting method are accumulated in diffused layer 6 in sequence. By repeating phtoelectric conversion several times, charges produced on the surface of silicon substrate 1 can be transferred to diffused layer 8 after being accumulated in diffused layer 6 sufficiently. In case of short-wavelength light, charges will hardly be lost in consequence.
