Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a polyimide capable of giving thermosetting resins having improved heat resistance, moldability and processability, by reacting an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydride with a polyamine while controlling the reaction temperature.
CONSTITUTION: One or two or more types of unsaturated dicarboxylic acid anhydrides of the formula (Z is organic group having a C-C double bond) are directly or dissolved in an organic solvent, and placed in a reaction vessel. One or two or more types of polyamines having two or more amino groups in the molecule on the average are directly or in an organic solvent, and added to the anhydrides at such a rate as not to increase the temperature of the reaction mixture above 50°C, and subjected to ring closure in the presence of a dehydrating agent, a dehydration catalyst, and a tertiary amine through dehydration at 50W120°C for 10minW10hr.
