Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the degree of multiplication for the single-mode optical fiber wavelength multiple transmission system by providing the mode filter at the reception end to eliminate the higher-order mode at the multi-mode region and then utilizing also the basic mode of the multi-mode region. CONSTITUTION:Beams lambda1-lambdaM of different wavelengths sent from M units of optical transmitters 1-1-1-M are compounded through optical compounding unit 2. Optical fiber 6 is set as the single mode fiber to M-L units of beams lambda1-lambdaM-L and then functions as the multi-mode fiber to L units of beams lambdaM-L+1-lambdaM. Mode filter 7 eliminates the higher-order mode at the multi-mode region. And the dividing is given again into M units of beams lambda1-lambdaM through optical branching filter 4, and the divided beams are received by optical receivers 5-1-5-M. Filter 7 is formed by bending the area near the reception end of fiber 6 along its circumference.
