Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a remedy for angine pectoris simply and efficiently, by reacting easily available 2-nitrobenzaldehyde with methyl acetoacetate and methyl 3-aminocrotonate in an inert solvent.
CONSTITUTION: One mole of 2-nitrobenzaldehyde is reacted with 1-2 moles of methyl acetoacetate and at least 1 mole of methyl aminocrotonate in an inert solvent, e.g. (hydrous) methanol, to give dimethyl 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(2'- nitrophenyl)- 3,5-pyridinedicarboxylate or its salt.
USE: Great pharmacological activities, e.g. coronary vasodilator actions.
