Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the liquid crystal display element in which the rise directions of liquid crystal molecules at the working are uniform and by which the display of a wide visual field angle and even is obtained by using the specific thin film layers of silicon oxide, etc. composed of two-layer structure as the orientation control layers to be provided on transparent substrates.
CONSTITUTION: The first orientation control layers 5, 6 of about 50W1000Å in film thickness are formed on the glass substrates 9, 10 provided with transparent conductive films 7, 8 by diagonally evaporating SiO, SiO2, etc. at an angle of about 5°. On these are formed the second orientation control films (silicon oxide thin films) 3, 4 of about 10W100Å in film thickness by coating the alcohol organic acid solution of organic silicon compound followed by baking. Next, the abovementioned both substrates 9, 10 are combined and the peripheral parts are sealed by spacers 2, after which P-type liquid crystal 11 is sealed to provide the display device.
