Abstract
PURPOSE: To minimize the generation of soot, which is ascribed to insufficient mixing of air with a gasified fuel, in a combustion device having a gasification wick in a gasification chamber as well as air vents in that portion of walls of the gasification chamber which is in the vicinity of the gasification wick, by covering with a gas permeable composition that portion of the gasification wick which is exposed in the gasification chamber.
CONSTITUTION: A burner 1 has a gasification wick 2, an upper portion of which is exposed in a gasification chamber 3. A combustion chamber 4 is provided, which is upwardly extended from the upper end of the gasification chamber 3. These chamber 3, 4 are provided in their respective side walls with vents 3a for gasified fuel and vents 4a for combustion gas, respectively. The surface of the exposed portion of the gasification wick 2 is covered with a composition 8 consisting of a net of stainless steel wires or the like. The air supplied through the vents 3a comes into contact with the surface of the gasification wick 2 to promote the gasification of a fuel contained therein and carry the gasified fuel in the upward direction. At this time, a turbulent flow A occurs due to the composition 8 so that the air is mixed sufficiently with the gasified fuel. Accordingly, a layer of non-mixed fuel gas, which causes soot to be generated at a high rate, can be prevented from occurring during combustion operation.
