Abstract

PURPOSE: A residual oil cracker in which the oil feed nozzle for returning uncracked oil that includes catalyst particles to the reactor is tapered in the inner surface to accelerate the oil flow and prevent the nozzle from clogging caused by the sedimentation of the catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: The feedstock, residual oil 4, is cracked in reactor 1 containing catalyst particles 2, the reaction product 16 is cooled in scrubber 5, the light fraction is taken out of the top, and the unreacted heavy oil 6 stays as a liquid in the bottom and is pumped through pump 7 and oil-feed nozzle 8 into the reactor 1 for recracking. The inside surface of the nozzle 8 is tapered in a proportion of less than about 2/10 in the oil-feed direction, whereby oil 6 containing catalyst particles is smoothly accelerated and the clogging caused by the sedimentation of particles inside the nozzle is prevented.
