Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase desulfurization efficiency, by addn. of at least one member selected from the group comprising carbonate, hydroxide, fluoride of alkali metal; fluoride, chloride of alkaline earth metal; and a reducing metal to a desulfurizing agent for molten cast iron composed of CaC2, dust from a CaC2-manufacturing electric furnace, and carbon. CONSTITUTION:A desulfurizing agent is manufactured by mixing 10-60% by wt. fine powder of dry dust or dried wet dust produced in a CaC2-manufacturing electric furnace with 5-60% by wt. carbonaceous material powder, e.g., graphite, coke, anthracite etc., 30-80% by wt. CaC2 powder. To the mixt., in addn., is added 0.1-0.5% by wt. at least one member selected from the group comprising carbonate, hydroxide, fluoride, chloride of alkali metal, such as Na2CO3, NaOH, NaF; fluoride, chloride of alkaline earth metal such as MgF2, CaF2, CaCl2 etc.; and 0-20% by wt. a metal powder excellent in reducing property such as Al, Ca- Si, Mn, Fe-Si, Mg etc.
