Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide a very fine wire material having a good extension property by a method wherein a small amount of rare earth metals is added to a molten steel having each specific amount of C, Si, Mn, P, S and O, and then is cast and rolled. CONSTITUTION:A molten steel is refined in a steel making furnace such as a converter or electric furnace, and is adjusted to S<=0.40% and O<=0.010%, using a deoxidizing agent except for Al, such as Fe-Mn or Fe-Si. A synthetic flux is added to the molten steel in a ladle to trap, for example, interposing nonmetals. Ar is blown from the porous plug at the bottom of the ladle, causing agitation to remove interposing nonmetals. During this process, a specified amount of rare earth metals is added to prevent oxidation. Then, the steel is cast and rolled to produce a wire material. The molten steel is to include C:0.24-0.95%, Si: 0.12-0.35%, Mn: 0.30-0.90%, P: 0.40% or less, S: 0.040% or less, O: 0.010% or less, and 0.005- 0.050% of added rare earth elements. (Ce, La, Nd, Pr, etc.).
