Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the leakproof of a battery by providing a film on a sealed part of a negative electrode container surface which film comprising a material insoluble to the electrolyte at a voltage nobler than the negative active material. CONSTITUTION:A negative electrode container 1 is calked with a positive electrode container 2 which serves also as a positive terminal spaced with a gasket 3 to form a sealed button-shaped battery. The negative electrode container 1 is formed of a composite material comprising copper on one side and stainless steel on another side which faces to outside of the battery, and a coated film 1' is provided on an upper surface a to b of the periphery of the sealed part which touches with the gasket 3. The coated film 1' is formed of a material which is insolubel to the electrolyte at a voltage nobler than a negative active material. For example, higher nickel hydroxide film 1' formed by treating the nickel surface of the negative electrode container 1 with an alkaline bromine water is used for a silver oxide-zinc battery. The thickness of the coated film may be not more than 1 micron.
