Abstract

PURPOSE:To erase recording information by simple constitution without using a solenoid driving means, by allowing a magnetic field, which is applied perpendicularly to part of the vertically magnetized film of a recording medium by a permanent magnet and has prescribed intensity, to move over the whole of the vertically magnetized film. CONSTITUTION:A disk 1 rotated at a high speed by a motor M is irradiated with a laser beam, a coil for a magnetizing bias is provided right under it, and the laser beam is modulated according to a signal, thus recording information. For the erasure of a signal recorded on the disk, a magnetic field applying means 8 is provided, and an erasing magnetic field having prescribed intensity is produced between mutually facing projections 10a and 10b formed of a permanent magnet 9 and magnetic lengthwise members 10 and 11 at both ends of the permanent magnet 9 in the rotational center axis direction of the disk 1.
