Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent overheating and keep constant the width of a printed line by a method wherein a heating current supplied to a head is gradually reduced when printing of the same pattern is continued for a relatively long period of time. CONSTITUTION:After a printing start signal ST is generated, a clock signal T2 having a predetermined period and a controlling voltage AO increasing gradually are fed to a timer circuit 4, and a current control signal IG is generated which has the same period as that of the clock signal T2 and has a pulse width t gradually decreased with the lapse of time. The heating current supplied to the thermal head 2 has the same pulse waveform as that of the current control signal IG, so that the heating current per unit time is gradually decreased with the lapse of printing time. The change characteristics regarding the printing time and the heating current can be set as desired in accordance with the periods of the clock signals T1, T2, output characteristics of a digital-to-analog converter 6 and time width controlling characteristics of the timer circuit 4.
