Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of heat necessary for regeneration of active carbon by taking out and removing the gas generated in the process of heating the active carbon to raise the temperature stepwise out of the system in the regeneration of active carbon.
CONSTITUTION: Active carbon that adsorbed sulfur dioxide is extracted from the lower part of an adsorption column 2 and carried to a regeneration column 4 by a conveyor 21 and regenerated by heating. Gas mainly composed of water vapor is generated first and taken out by a regeneration gas piping 41. Gas mainly composed of water vapor, sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide is generated next and taken out by a piping 42. After this, remaining sulfuric acid is decomposed and taken out by a piping 43. Thus, generated gas is taken out successively out of the system according to temperature of heating, and consequently, the amount of heat necessary for regeneration by heating is reduced and efficiency of regeneration is improved.
