Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:An immunologically active substance, produced by a microorganism belonging to the genus Acinetobacter, readily soluble in water, and insoluble in ethanol, acetone and ether, consisting of 3wt% or less protein and 15wt% or more glucide, and containing substantially no microbial cell component having an endotoxic activity.
USE: An immunological enhancer, expected as a remedy for autoimmune diseases, nephritis, rheumatism, collagen disease, cancer, etc., and having an anticomplementary action, delayed allergenic action and weaker side effects, e.g. blood platelet agglutinating action, and lower acute toxicity than the commercially available lipopolysaccharide medicines.
PROCESS: A microorganism, e.g. Acinetobacter lwoffi TBR No.1 (FERM-P No. 5624), belonging to the genus Acinetobacter is cultivated in a culture medium under aerobic conditions, and a water-soluble substance is collected from the culture medium and extracted to give the aimed substance from the aqueous phase.
