Abstract

PURPOSE:To contrive to make the device small in size by using a holographic element so as to divide a reflected light from a storage medium into two, receiving the lights by photoelectric converting elements and making the polarized axis of two polarized plates different from each other thereby simplifying the optical system. CONSTITUTION:The luminous fluxes 103, 104 being the result of two-division of a reflected light 101 from an optical storage medium by a holographic element 102 are collected by a condenser lens 105 and the light detected by polarized plates 106, 107 is received by photoelectric conversion elements 108, 109. In this case, the polarized axis direction of the polarized plates 106, 107 is not the same but arranged by a different angle obliquely with respect to the polarized direction of the radiated light from the optical head. Thus, the distance between two photoelectric conversion elements is made close and a magneto- optical signal is obtained by a 2-split photodiode 315. Thus, the optical system is simplified and number of condenser lenses is reduced by one more than that of a conventional device and the device is made small in size.
