Abstract
PURPOSE:To make a stepless speed changer in a small size and enhance its durability by furnishing a means to engage a neutral clutch upon engagement of a frictional engaging element on the forward side when a manual shift valve is put from the neutral position into forward or backward position. CONSTITUTION:Existing invention has a neutral clutch 14 and a fluid coupling 12 between an engine and a belt type stepless speed changer 16, which is coupled with a planetary gearing device 18 for forward/backward changeover, and the neutral clutch 14 is engaged first upon engaging brake devices 82, 94 of the forward/backward changeover device 18 by the use of a neutral clutch engaging means when a manual shift valve is put from the neutral position into the forward or backward position. This eliminates any accumulator as required in a conventional arrangement to control the pressure rising speed in actuating oil of the brake devices 92, 94. Also the durability is enhanced because the brake devices 92, 94 are put in engagement in the condition with no load applied.
