Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent galvanic corrosion due to contact between Al and stainless steel, by previously applying a coating material containing zinc grains and chromic acid to respective surfaces of stainless-steel members at the time of using the stainless-steel members and Al members in a state kept in contact with each other. CONSTITUTION:At the time of tightening Al members 1 with a stainless-steel bolt 2 and a stainless-steel nut 3, galvanic corrosion occurs in the contacting part between both metallic members. In order to prevent this galvanic corrosion, a coating material 4 containing Zn grains and chromic acid is applied, before use, to respective surfaces of the stainless-steel bolt 2 and the nut 3. Since the stainless.steel members 2, 3 are protected by the above film 4 and also electrically insulated from the Al members 1, no local battery causing corrosion is formed and, as a result, galvanic corrosion does not occur.
