Abstract
PURPOSE:To ensure proper superconducting characteristics and enhance mechanical strength by forming a layer of an oxide system superconducting material on the surface of a base material such as a line-shaped material comprising mono-metal, alloy, compound and the like selected among IVa and Va group metal elements in the periodic table, and applying heat treatment thereto. CONSTITUTION:A layer 4 containing an oxide system superconducting material or the raw material thereof is formed on the surface of a base material and subjected to heat treatment. The base material to be used is a line-shaped, tubular or tape-shaped material made of mono-metal selected from IVa and Va group metal elements in the periodic table including Ti, Zr, Hf, Nb and Ta, or alloy containing each of said metal or the compound of said metal elements. The environment of heat treatment is an oxygen gas current and an oxidizing environment containing a halogen gas such as chlorine and fluorine. As a result of this heat treatment, the superconducting material or a layer containing the raw material thereof is sintered on the surface of the base material and turns into a superconducting layer 2, thereby manufacturing the superconducting material.
