Abstract

PURPOSE:To make the assembly of a molten carbonate fuel cell easy and to make it possible to manufacture a large-sized cell by assembling a cell structure with a specific tile holding material, by burning out organic fibers in a temperature elevating process to a specified temperature, and by impregnating a specific electrolyte in the holding material. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous slurry prepared by mixing at least lithium aluminate powder, alumina beads, alumina fibers, and organic fibers in a wet process is coagulated and made in a sheet. The sheet obtained is used as the holding material of an electrolyte tile 1 to assemble a cell structure. The holding material is put in an electric furnace 23 and the temperature of the furnace 23 is elevated up to 650 deg.C to burn out the organic fibers. An electrolyte comprising lithium carbonate and potassium carbonate is supplied from an alumina crucible 21 and impregnated in the holding material to form the electrolyte tile 1. By this manufacturing process, the breakage of the tile is prevented, and the assembly of a molten carbonate fuel cell is made simple and easy. In addition, the manufacture of a large-sized cell is made possible.
